There are so many things out there for a baby. But do you really need it all? How much do you really need for your baby in the first 3 months?
I have found that after having six children… and having my sixth one more recently… I don’t really need as much as I thought. Let’s get into the important essentials that a baby needs for the first 3 months…

These are 10 important essentials to start you off…
-
First, I would start off with a car seat and stroller. They won’t let you take your precious little baby home if you don’t have a car seat. I have always found the travel system that is usually a car seat and a stroller to be the best option. Later on, once you are feeling more like yourself after having a baby, and you have to go out shopping or run some errands, you just click the car seat onto the stroller and away you go. This is especially helpful if your little one falls asleep.

A bassinet was the best choice for me to have in the first 3 months and beyond after having my baby boy. I was able to put it right by my bed and to be honest it was a sanity saver for night time diaper changes and calming down my baby. Also, there was less strain on my back because I could sit on my bed and pick him up from the bassinet. Now, my baby boy was not able to turn over and pull himself up for quite a long time so I was able to keep him in the bassinet past 6 months. If your baby is an acrobat I would definitely consider having a crib ready.

Make sure you have diapers and wipes. I did go for the softer Pampers and Huggies diapers until the belly button stump fell off and healed. I liked that they had cut outs for the belly button area. Later I bought the cheaper brands and still do. I used diapers up so quickly that there was no need for me to buy the more expensive ones. Diapers are not cheap these days. My favorite wipes have been the Amazon Elements unscented wipes. They are tough to tear and I would have a pack in the car for wiping hands or messes.
-
Aquaphor was my go to during diaper changes and dry skin. I used it on myself as a barrier between my skin and pads after coming home after giving birth. I still use it to this day. It works good on dry skin or chapped lips.
-
Zip up onesies are the best. At least they were for me. They are a complete outfit and some of them are quite adorable. I especially liked the ones that have the extra fabric flap that you can pull over your little ones fingers so they don’t scratch themselves up.
-
Swaddling blankets and burp clothes. I would sometimes use swaddling blankets in place of burp clothes if my baby would have too much spit up.
-
Pacifiers…now there is a variety of them and sometimes I had to go through a couple of different styles before my baby took one…but it was worth it later on.
-
A diaper bag. I prefer the backpack style one to free up your hands.
-
A baby monitor so you can keep watch even when you are not right by your little baby. Otherwise you have to run back and forth like I did to check on your little one.
-
A rocking chair or glider. Even before you can hold your little one in your arms, you can rock them.
