Good Quality Educational Toys Kids Will Play With

Good quality educational toys are always something I am on the hunt for.

I prefer quality over quantity.

In addition, I like toys that can be played with in different ways. I have a three year old and I am a homeschooling mom of two.

If you need some ideas just keep reading.

Play-Doh is great.

All of my kids have enjoyed playing with it. Some that are younger still do. It’s great to play with on it’s own but even better when it comes with accessories.

I remember when one of my daughters was still little she asked for a Play-Doh Dentist set. She played with it often and now she is planning to go into college to be a dental hygienist. Of course I don’t think that had anything to do with it but you never know.

Another one of my daughters would make outfits and accessories for her little pet shops. There is so much variety of play that can be had with Play-Doh. I would buy a big box of different colored Play- Doh and just let my kids play. Of all the play doe over the years that I have bought I would have to say that the Play-Doh brand is still the best.

It’s a great gift for any young kid to get a big box of different colored Play- Doe or a Play- Doe set.

Magnetic tiles have been around for a while. My oldest who is now an adult played with them and I continued to buy them over the years for the rest of my kids.

Today, I have a box of magnetic tiles for my toddler. There are so many different sets. I buy the Picasso Tiles. For me they are just as good as the more expensive brands. Plus, they are more affordable.

There are also magnetic cubes that I will be trying out to see if my three year old likes them.

Our local library has a variety of toys for kids to play with and there was a set of magnetic shapes that my toddler kept gravitating towards. I found them on Amazon and they are a great quality toy for kids to build with. They are called Popular Playthings. The set came with a booklet that gave some ideas of what to build.

Tinker toys will definitely keep kids busy. They can build all kinds of things. Building with LEGOs is a great option. The LEGO brand is in my opinion the best quality of bricks to build with. There is a great variety of Lego sets to choose from. My kids would start with LEGO DUPLO and then graduate to the more complex sets.

Lakeshore learning toys are also good quality and educational.

I recently found a Lakeshore Nuts About Patterning set. I brought it home and my toddler would not stop playing with it. He didn’t even want his sister touching it. When he went down for a nap I heard his preteen sister trying out the toy.

Learning Resources is another great brand that has a variety of educational toys for different ages.

One toy that I bought years ago as a gift for my nephew was the Learning Resources Rock ‘n’ Gem Surprise. It was a great good quality toy.

I am planning to buy it for my 3 year old because it comes with a hammer and pretend plastic rocks he can split open to find diamonds. What little boy doesn’t like hitting something with a hammer? I know mine does.

Board books. Yes they may not be a toy but they are for sure educational. I love the different variety and size that you can get. They are much sturdier than soft paper books.

I have a local used book store called McKays. I love that store. I have found so many games, books, and toys in great condition for a fraction of the cost. Some have even been in new condition. Lift the flap books are great too.

In this category I would also put puzzles. I have always loved Melissa and Doug puzzles for their quality. Both their floor puzzles and wooden puzzles have been great.

A play kitchen if you have room for one is great but if you don’t then just make some room in your own kitchen. Buy some Melissa and Doug wooden play sets and accessories. Kids will love them.

My girls loved playing with the sets that came with a wooden knife and cutting board. It was a safe way to let kids cut up veggies and bread without worrying about them cutting their finger.

These are some of the good quality educational toys that my kids have had over the years and some that they still have. They would make great birthday or Christmas gifts.
