Important Rules For Kids To Follow Before Screen Time

Summer is just around the corner and with it comes nothing but screen time for many kids. Let’s try to break that cycle this summer and do something different.

It will take patience and perseverance from you as parents. Explain these rules to your kids so that they understand that this is what you plan on doing. Don’t give up if things are rough at first.

Important Rules Before Screens Get Turned On…

  • Get ready for the day…wash your face, brush your teeth, brush your hair, and get dressed.

  • Get your room in order…dirty clothes put in a hamper and bed made.

  • Help clean one room in the house. This can also include chores getting done if you have a chore system.

  • Play outside for 30 minutes.

  • Read for 30 minutes.

  • Creativity time for 30 minutes (do a craft, build with legos, blocks, play dough or clay, write or color…)

  • Help someone in the family or spend time with a younger sibling (play with or read a book to a younger sibling, help organize toys or books, the list can go on…)

These rules can be adjusted to include or exclude any of them. Also, depending on the kids ages you might want to alter the rules and times. For the most part I think it is a good set of rules for kids to follow whether they are on summer break or for anytime.
