10 Gift Ideas To Make Your Mother Feel Special

Do you ever find yourself trying to figure out what you can get for your mother to make her feel special?

I am going to try and help you with that. I am a mother to six children so I hope to talk from experience about what gifts I would like and am pretty sure any mother out there would really appreciate these gifts too.

Now remember, I am a strong believer in giving gifts to mothers more often than on just Mother’s Day and birthdays. So definitely keep that in mind as you are going through the gift ideas I am going to talk about.

10 Gift Ideas For Your Mother’s Special Day

1. A bouquet of her favorite flowers and chocolates seems like the right place to start. As far back as I can remember that has been something that mothers have been given and seem to enjoy so I would definitely start with that. Now keep in mind that I said start…there needs to be more than just flowers and chocolates.

2. I would have to say that one of the best gifts that you can give your mother EVER is a day off to enjoy herself. Wherever she wants to go…let her go. If she wants to stay home then let her enjoy her day at home.

For my recent birthday, because I was turning 40 and that was a big deal for me, my husband and children wanted my day to be extra special. I planned a solo trip to go visit Biltmore Estate in North Carolina. It’s a historical building (I LOVE history) that I got to enjoy with my fullest attention. The drive there was about 4 hours and I enjoyed that very much. It was a very special visit for me and one of the best birthdays I’ve had. Moving on…

3. Now while she is enjoying her day off, husbands and kids roll up your sleeves and get that house as spotless as you can and dinner prepped so when mom comes home she can enjoy her full day and not have to worry about cleaning or preparing dinner.

4. Send mom off on her special day with gift cards. Moms tend to spend money on kids and groceries rather than on themselves. At least the majority of moms do. I know I am one of those moms. That is why I would recommend gift cards to stores that moms love and will shop for themselves. Maybe she needs a gift card to a spa so she can relax and have a spa day.

5. Homemade cards are so special, especially when the husband gets involved and helps the younger kids. They are personal and unique. I have a stack of homemade cards that my girls have made for me and they mean more to me then any store bought cards.

6. Homemade gifts go hand in hand with the homemade cards. They are just so much more meaningful. One of my older daughters made me an orchid from pipe cleaners for my 40th birthday. She knew that was my favorite flower. She worked on it for months before my birthday. Of course she wasn’t old enough to drive so my husband helped. That is why it is so important for husbands to get involved and help the kids make the day special for mom.

7. Can’t go wrong with a good perfume. Especially the really nice smelling ones that are good quality and a bit expensive. Usually a mom will not spend the money on getting herself an expensive perfume.

I know I haven’t. The most expensive perfume I ever got was Chanel no 5 from my husband right before we got married. That was more than 20 years ago. For my 39th birthday, one of my daughters surprised me with that same perfume that she bought with her own hard earned money. It meant so much to me and to her.

8. A nice pair of shoes or a handbag. Once again. These things if you find good quality are not cheap and most moms will not buy them for themselves. But getting them as a gifts…now that’s a whole other story. But do make sure you know what kind of handbag or shoes she actually wants.

9. Get her some good earbuds. I would use the ones that my older kids or husband no longer wanted. I was so excited when I got a brand new pair over a year ago. I still have them and I really do cherish them.

I grew up with lots of hand me downs and even though I still appreciated them it was always so special when I would get something brand new. These days, I love thrift stores but there are some things like earbuds that I prefer to get brand new. 10. Some nice pajamas or lounge set. Maybe even multiples would be a good idea. There have been days…and I mean a lot of days that I stayed in my pajamas. When bedtime came, I put on a fresh pair and pretty much stayed in them until the next night.

Get mom a nice set of pajamas or lounge wear. (Here is a link to a lounge set that I have purchased and would recommend if you are interested https://amzn.to/3vSFzhG). She will be grateful. Even more so, let her have pajama days with no judgement. She deserves all the pajama days she wants.

More than anything a mother wants to feel appreciated. Don’t forget to thank her often for all that she does and every once in a while surprise her with a gift or two.
